Kannada Actress Ranya Rao Remanded in Gold Smuggling Case

Kannada actress Ranya Rao was sent to judicial custody until March 24 in connection to a gold smuggling case. The Economic Offences Court in Bengaluru ordered her custody following allegations of smuggling gold from Dubai. Claims of verbal harassment by DRI officials during interrogation were also raised.

Kannada actress Ranya Rao has been sent to judicial custody until March 24 on charges of involvement in a gold smuggling ring. She appeared at the Economic Offences Court in Bengaluru on Monday after a three-day detention by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI).

Ranya Rao was brought before Judge Vishwanath C Gowdar of the special court for economic offences as stipulated after completing a medical examination. She briefly consulted with her legal counsel in the courtroom before proceedings continued.

The actress alleged verbal misconduct by DRI officials during her questioning. The DRI countered these accusations, claiming all interactions were professional and documented on CCTV, with her attorney present throughout. Ranya, reportedly involved in smuggling 14.8 kilograms of gold from Dubai to Bengaluru, was arrested on March 3 at Kempegowda International Airport.
