A man has been handed two life sentences by Delhi's Rohini Court for the heinous crime of sodomizing and subsequently murdering a 10-year-old boy in 2018. The crime involved kidnapping the child and disposing of the body in a drain to destroy crucial evidence, leading to the registration of an FIR at Shalimar Bagh Police Station.
Special Judge Sushil Bala Dagar sentenced the convict for murder and sodomy, each carrying a life term. Additional sentences include seven years for kidnapping and three years for evidence destruction, with a fine of Rs 30,000 imposed. The court underscored the brutality of the crime but did not categorize it as the 'rarest of rare.'
The family of the deceased was awarded a compensation of Rs 10.50 lakh, acknowledging the severe emotional and mental trauma suffered. The prosecution argued for maximum punishment to deter similar crimes in society, while the convict's defense urged leniency due to his economic background.
