The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has mandated all airlines and airports in India to bolster their security measures following escalating tensions with Pakistan. According to sources from the Civil Aviation Ministry on Thursday, passengers at all airports will undergo an additional layer of security checks, known as ladder point security checks (LPSC), and all visitor entries to terminal buildings will be prohibited. Furthermore, air marshals will be strategically deployed as necessary.
This directive follows a string of missile attacks by Pakistan targeting multiple Indian cities on Thursday evening. Defense sources reported that Pakistan launched eight missiles aimed at locations including Satwari, Samba, RS Pura, and Arnia, all of which were successfully intercepted by India's air defense units. Reports from sources also suggested that the attacks bore similarities to tactics used by Hamas against Israel, indicating that the Pakistani Army might be emulating the operations of terror organizations.
In response to these attacks, the Indian government has enforced blackouts in regions such as Bikaner in Rajasthan, Jalandhar in Punjab, and parts of Jammu and Kashmir. This comes as Indian air defenses successfully intercepted Pakistani drones over territories including Udhampur and Jaisalmer. India responded to the initial aggression with Operation Sindoor, targeting terrorist infrastructure within Pakistan and PoJK with precision strikes, resulting in over 100 terror casualties. During a media briefing on Thursday, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri emphasized India's measured response to the escalations, stating that their actions were targeted against non-civilian, non-military targets, and reiterated that any further provocations by Pakistan would be addressed aptly.
