UPDATE 1-Parts of Czech power grid suffer outage, operator says

Parts of the Czech national power grid were affected by an outage on Friday, grid operator CEPS said.

"Part of the transmission system is without voltage; the event affected also a larger part of transmission system substations," it said, adding that the causes were under investigation. CEPS said it could confirm that one high-voltage power line had suffered an outage, which separated northern and eastern parts of the country from the grid.

Czech Television reported that the outage affected several northern and eastern regions as well as parts of the capital. Power was restored quickly in some affected areas. Prague transport company DPP said underground trains in the capital briefly stopped, but operations were soon restored. Tram traffic also stopped on the right bank of the capital.

E.ON, which operates part of the grid in south and south-eastern Czech Republic, said its supply area was not affected. News agency CTK said the outage in Prague was affected by failure of a Prague substation.
