Rajasthan's Torrent: Rivers Overflow, Dams Surge Amidst Heavy Rain
Heavy rains have caused rivers in Rajasthan to overflow, leading to dam releases and prompting emergency responses. Officials remain on high alert as the state deploys disaster relief teams to manage the crisis, with significant rainfall recorded in several districts. In Rajasthan, unrelenting rain has elevated river levels, with dams overflowing, prompting an emergency response. The Meteorological Department forecasts more downpour in Ajmer, Jaipur, Bikaner, and Jodhpur divisions on Thursday. Sawai Madhopur, Baran, and Tonk have experienced over 150 mm of rain since Tuesday, exacerbating the situation.
Authorities have opened three gates of the Bisalpur Dam in Tonk, releasing 18,030 cusecs of water. In Dholpur, the Chambal River has surged 9.36 meters above the danger mark. Similarly, Karauli and Sawai Madhopur districts face high water levels, and the Parvati River in Kota is 3.35 meters above the danger mark, with the Kota Barrage releasing 19,236 cusecs of water through opened gates.
The state's disaster management and relief units are in action mode to safeguard the populace. Teams from NDRF and SDRF have been dispatched to key locations, and Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma has issued directives to address waterlogging and repair infrastructure, following his inspection of impacted areas in Jaipur.
