In a significant stride for the agricultural sector, over 20 lakh farmers in Assam have been granted more than Rs 422 crore, courtesy of the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, officials announced on Sunday.

The disbursement, which occurred on Saturday, forms part of a nationwide initiative helmed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, initiated in Varanasi, according to a senior Agriculture Department official.

As of the 20th installment under the PM-Kisan scheme, more than 20.31 lakh qualifying farmer families in Assam have benefited. The scheme bestows Rs 6,000 annually to each farming family, distributed in three equal payments.
