Telangana's Push for OBC Reservations: A Call for Presidential Consent

In a fervent demonstration of political resolve, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy spearheaded a large-scale protest at Delhi's iconic Jantar Mantar on Wednesday. The protest demanded presidential assent for the state's legislative bills that aim to ensure 42% reservations for Backward Classes in local body elections and key sectors such as education and employment.

Reddy warned that a lack of approval would expose the BJP's unfavorable stance towards backward communities. "During the Bharat Jodo Yatra, Rahul Gandhi pledged to the people of Telangana that upon forming the government, a caste census would be conducted to provide 42% reservation for OBCs. This promise was a cornerstone for the Congress securing power," he declared to reporters.

He expressed frustration over the Central government's silence, with the reservation bill still awaiting presidential consent after four months. "This compels us to intensify our protest, both in the streets and in the legislative halls of Parliament. Congress and INDIA bloc parties here in Telangana stand united in this struggle, while the BJP remains silent," Reddy remarked.

Reddy emphasized the lack of response from the President regarding a sought-after meeting and warned that BJP officials visiting Telangana would face scrutiny unless action was taken. He predicted dire political consequences for the BJP in the state if the bills were not approved, highlighting the successful execution of the caste census in Telangana as a model worthy of national implementation.

"Our protests will persist until the next general election," he asserted. "If PM Modi fails to respond, we are committed to seeing Rahul Gandhi ascend as the next Prime Minister," Reddy vowed. (ANI)
