In a heart-wrenching accident, six school boys drowned in a rainwater-filled gravel pit in Kurnool district's Aspari mandal, Andhra Pradesh, on Wednesday. The children, students of a local school, had ventured to the pit, located about one kilometer from their village, for a swim.
Tragically, only one of the seven children stayed out of the water, later raising the alarm that brought villagers and a shepherd to the scene to retrieve the bodies. Local officials have confirmed the casualties to PTI and that the rescue operation followed swiftly after the alert was raised.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and YSRCP Chief Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy both expressed profound shock and sadness over the incident. They extended condolences to the families affected and called for governmental support and precautionary measures to prevent further tragedies.
