A wild elephant has been causing extensive damage to crops in villages near the Pilibhit Tiger Reserve, officials revealed on Thursday.

The elephant, which wandered from the tiger reserve's core Mala range recently, has been entering the fields in Sirsa, Sardah, Goyal Colony, and Mahua, leading to the destruction of sugarcane and paddy crops, locals reported.

Manish Singh, Deputy Director of the Pilibhit Tiger Reserve, stated, "We are monitoring the elephant's movement and working to guide it back to its territory." Farmers, meanwhile, are vigilantly watching over their fields at night, using torches and drums in an attempt to deter the elephant from causing further destruction.
