The northeastern state of Arunachal Pradesh has marked a significant milestone with the inauguration of its first-ever commercial coal mining operation at the Namchik-Namphuk coal block.
The project, inaugurated by Union Minister of Coal and Mines G Kishan Reddy and Chief Minister Pema Khandu, is expected to produce notable economic benefits for the state through job creation and revenue generation, with anticipated annual returns exceeding Rs 100 crore.
Originally allocated in 2003, the coal block faced numerous delays but has now been revitalized through an auction process in 2022, opening doors for private sector involvement, and fueling Arunachal Pradesh's growth in energy security and local prosperity.
