Gurdaspur's Battle Against Stubble Fires: Progress and Challenges

In a concerted effort to curb stubble burning, Gurdaspur district administration officials, including Senior Superintendent of Police Aditya and Deputy Commissioner Dalwinderjit Singh, visited Sohal village. The initiative aimed to review anti-stubble burning measures and engage directly with local farmers following this year's harvest season.

Deputy Commissioner Singh noted that around 80% of Sohal village's crops have been harvested without any incidents of farm fires. He acknowledged the farmers' plea for extended intervals between harvesting and sowing to help prevent stubble burning, planning to present this request to the government.

SSP Aditya highlighted the absence of stubble burning cases in Sohal village this year, contrasting it with previous years, and praised the efforts of law enforcement and civil administration in conducting nearly 270 meetings with farmer organizations to ensure compliance. These preventive actions have been vital in tackling the issue effectively.
