India Gears Up for Second Phase of Electoral Roll Revision Across 12 States and UTs

The Election Commission of India is set to conduct the second phase of Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls across 12 states and union territories, concluding on February 7, 2026. This comprehensive exercise will address issues like voter migration and inaccuracies on the existing voter lists.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) announces the second phase of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls across 12 states and union territories, set to culminate with the publication of the final voter list on February 7, 2026, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar stated in New Delhi on Monday.

The revision process will involve printing and training from October 28 to November 3, followed by an Enumeration Phase from November to December 4. Draft Electoral Rolls will be released on December 9, initiating a claims and objection period until January 8, 2026. Final Electoral Rolls will be published on February 7, 2026, covering areas including Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, and more.

The ECI is responding to Supreme Court directives about Aadhaar's role in voter verification. CEC Kumar explained that Aadhaar, while not proof of domicile or citizenship, serves as proof of identity. Voter lists will be frozen, and processes such as enumeration form distribution and voter list matching will commence, ensuring accuracy and inclusivity for all eligible voters.
