Governor Bose Applauds Election Commission's Second Phase SIR Initiative

In an announcement noteworthy for its electoral implications, West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose expressed approval of the Election Commission's move to initiate the second phase of the Special Intensive Revision across 12 states and union territories, including West Bengal, ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.

Governor Bose stated to ANI that the Election Commission's actions align with the constitutional system of checks and balances essential for the healthy progression of democracy. He refrained from commenting on the Trinamool Congress-led government's administrative shifts involving 64 IAS and WBCS officers prior to the SIR process.

This follow-up to the SIR's first phase in Bihar, conducted under the Supreme Court's aegis, incorporates Aadhaar as one of the 12 indicative documents, while making clear its limitations regarding proof of domicile and citizenship. The Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal plans to detail the process further in a scheduled press conference.
