In a tragic incident, one person lost his life and more than 35 were injured when a bus carrying Ayyappa devotees from Karnataka overturned on a hazardous hill highway, police reported on Saturday.

The untoward event befell the pilgrims on their journey home after visiting the Sabarimala shrine. The deceased has been identified as Harish M C, aged 36, from Mysuru. According to a police officer, the accident happened at a notorious bend in Kattamkavala near Chittarikkal police station limits.

Containing 53 pilgrims, the bus succumbed to steep, narrow roads which are suspect factors contributing to the mishap. The vehicle lost control on a treacherous curve, flipped over, and descended a steep roadside slope. Emergency medical response facilitated hospital transport for all injured, where Harish later succumbed to his injuries.
