Telangana is on a mission to become a USD 3 trillion economy by 2047, necessitating a significant boost in both economic and power growth. Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka highlighted the plan during a recent presentation, underscoring a need to increase power demand to 1,39,310 MW by 2047, growing annually by 10%.
The state has hit the ground running with a comprehensive 10-year power capacity addition plan that zeroes in on green energy, including solar, wind, and hydel technologies. This initiative aims to nix fossil-fuel dependence, cut down costs, and align with the Paris Agreement's green energy goals, which mandates 50% green power by 2030.
Energy, storage, and capacity issues were spotlighted, with the government planning to enhance battery and pumped storage facilities to meet future needs. Allegations of financial misconduct in current thermal power projects loom large, with calls for future plants to be strategically located near coal mines to optimize costs and logistical efficiency.
