India's Fiscal Boost: Parliament Approves Billions for Subsidies

The Indian government has proposed an additional expenditure of Rs 41,455 crore for the current fiscal year, tabling it before Parliament on Monday. This net additional spending comes as part of a larger request totaling Rs 1.32 lakh crore.
Out of the proposed spending, over Rs 18,000 crore is allocated for fertiliser subsidies, with another Rs 9,500 crore directed towards compensating oil marketing companies under the Petroleum Ministry for under-recoveries.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Supplementary Demands for Grants 2025-26, seeking approvals and highlighting the Rs 90,812 crore savings from various Ministries and Departments as a balancing act.
