Goa's Nightlife Safety Under Scrutiny After Devastating Arpora Fire

Following a tragic fire at a Goa restaurant-club that left 25 dead, the State Disaster Management Authority has issued stringent safety advisories for nightclubs, restaurants, and bars statewide. Compliance with fire and electrical safety standards is now mandatory, with non-compliance risking severe penalties.

In the wake of a catastrophic fire in Arpora, Goa, which claimed 25 lives, the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) has mandated rigorous safety measures for nightlife establishments across the state. The advisory, released on Sunday, emphasizes compliance with fire, electrical, and structural safety norms under the Disaster Management Act 2005.

The directive stipulates maintaining a valid Fire NOC, adherence to planned occupancy limits, and functional fire safety equipment. Establishments are urged to conduct an internal safety audit within seven days, with violations risking closures or license cancellations. The advisory is now effective and detailed on the SDMA website.

Meanwhile, criminal proceedings have commenced, and four individuals have been detained in connection to the incident. Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced financial aid for victims' families. Goa Police continue their investigation, with senior officers stationed at Anjuna police station to oversee proceedings.
