The Indian Army, as part of its Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat @2047 initiative, has finalized a procurement contract for a Fire Fighting Robot under the Innovation for Defence Excellence (iDEX) framework. This significant contract, executed with M/s Swadeshi Empresa Pvt Ltd, was signed on January 13, 2026, at the Capability Development Directorate of the Indian Army.

This strategic acquisition marks the first instance of the Army leveraging iDEX products developed for the Indian Navy, enhancing jointness in defense technology development. The compact, unmanned Fire Fighting Robot will operate in hazardous environments, improving safety for Indian Army personnel during critical emergencies.

Simultaneously, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has embarked on a collaboration with Viasat, Inc. for the Indian Navy's satellite communications upgrade. This modernization phase aims to transition Navy SATCOM to multi-band and multi-constellation, employing BSNL's Gateway Earth Station and Viasat's satellite network to ensure robust and reliable connectivity for naval operations.
