Cairn Oil & Gas, under Vedanta Ltd, announced a significant discovery of new natural gas reserves beneath the established Ambe field in western offshore areas. The findings were made in the appraisal well Ambe-2A located in block CB/OSDSF/AMBE/2021.
This discovery, situated in the Miocene-Tarkeshwar formation, has been promptly reported to both the Directorate General of Hydrocarbons (DGH) and the Oil Ministry. Details remain sparse, but the discovery is considered notable for its potential impact on gas production.
Cairn has commenced thorough evaluations to gauge the feasibility of developing the block further. The field, awarded under the Discovered Small Field bidding round in 2022, spans over 728 square kilometers. Cairn plans additional drilling to capitalize on this opportunity, which could significantly boost domestic gas production.
