Assam will receive nearly Rs 50,000 crore as a share of tax devolution in the fiscal year 2026-27, according to an official release by the Union Ministry of Finance. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, during the presentation of the 2026-27 Union Budget in the Lok Sabha, highlighted this allocation.

The overall central transfers to Assam have seen a marked increase under successive Union Budgets. For FY 2026-27, Rs 49,725 crore is allocated for tax devolution, alongside Rs 29,548 crore as grants-in-aid for FY 2025-26. Since 2014, Assam has received around Rs 3.12 lakh crore through tax devolution and Rs 2.49 lakh crore as grants-in-aid, illustrating continued fiscal support from the Centre.

The 2026-27 Union Budget significantly fortifies the development partnership between the Centre and Assam, emphasizing capital investments and sustained resource flow. Special Assistance to States for Capital Expenditure (SASCI) provides 50-year interest-free loans for infrastructure, with Assam receiving Rs 17,104 crore between FY 2020-26. Flagship schemes further enhance socio-economic benefits, emphasizing financial inclusion, social security, and rural development.
