A startling scandal has emerged at the Punjab National Bank's Nawalgarh branch in Jhunjhunu, where genuine gold ornaments were allegedly substituted with fakes in the bank's lockers. The incident prompted a case being registered, according to Jhunjhunu SP Brijesh Jyoti Upadhyay.

The discovery was made when a customer attempted to retrieve their gold, only to find it replaced with counterfeit jewellery. An inquiry revealed that 73 packets of gold ornaments were switched with fakes, while three other packets were underweight. This led to the involvement of bank officials in the investigation.

The FIR, filed by PNB's senior branch manager Mukesh Sihag, implicated former branch manager Amit Kumar, employee Santosh Kumar Saini, and deputy manager Anantprakash Chaudhary. The responsibility for the locker security changed hands shortly before the scandal surfaced, raising serious questions about internal controls and accountability within the bank.
