In a recent statement, Bharatiya Janata Party leader Shazia Ilmi criticized the Congress party for lacking independent support in Tamil Nadu, asserting that they rely heavily on the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) to secure election victories. She emphasized the Congress's dependency reflects a lack of respect within their alliance.
Ilmi's comments coincide with the ongoing seat-sharing talks between the Congress and the DMK ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. These negotiations are a crucial phase for both parties, key members of the opposition INDIA bloc, as alliance dynamics are being tested against BJP's strategies.
Amidst these reports, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee President K Selvaperunthagai reassured that negotiations with the DMK are progressing smoothly. He dismissed BJP's attempts to divide the opposition, affirming the solidity of the alliance as they gear up for the state's 2026 elections.
