New Beginnings for Siang Upper Multipurpose Project Amid Community Concerns

Arunachal Pradesh Panchayati Raj and Rural Development Minister Ojing Tasing revealed plans to initiate the pre-feasibility report for the Siang Upper Multipurpose Project. This announcement comes after consultations with local communities, who have largely consented, except for a few villages harboring environmental and displacement concerns.

With an aim to generate 11,000 MW of hydropower and ensure flood control, the project is contentious due to its potential impact on local populations. The government seeks to address these concerns by ensuring the development process is inclusive and respects the rights of affected communities.
