External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is poised to deliver a crucial statement in the Lok Sabha regarding the escalating tensions in West Asia as the second phase of the Budget Session of Parliament kicks off. This move comes as global attention is fixated on the region following the death of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei due to joint military strikes by the United States and Israel on February 28, prompting retaliatory strikes from Tehran.

The conflict has garnered calls from the Opposition for not just statements, but a full-fledged discussion. Congress MP Jairam Ramesh has criticized the timing of the statement, insisting on the necessity for parliamentary debate. Meanwhile, the Opposition has its own agenda, with 118 MPs signing a No-Confidence Motion against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, citing partisan conduct after Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi was purportedly prevented from speaking.

As the session resumes, the Lok Sabha will honor late MP Ricky Andrew J. Syngkon alongside other notable figures. Legislative focus includes major discussions on President's rule in Manipur and environmental concerns, while the Budget Session, commencing with the President's joint address, will span 30 sittings till April 2 to handle vital legislative and budgetary matters.
