In a bid to foster self-sufficiency and a healthier lifestyle, Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen KT Parnaik (Retd) urged citizens to cultivate seasonal vegetables in their backyard gardens. By planting avocado saplings at the Lok Bhavan horticultural farm, he stressed the importance of reducing reliance on market-bought produce.

Parnaik emphasized that kitchen gardening not only provides fresh, chemical-free vegetables but also strengthens food security and nutrition. According to the governor, this practice bolsters the connection to nature and helps instill responsibility for sustainable living among citizens.

The initiative, supported by the horticulture department, includes planting two avocado varieties, Hass and Pinkerton, as part of a pilot project. Parnaik encouraged officials to transform vacant spaces into productive plots, promoting household nutrition and self-reliance across the state.
