In an ambitious drive to enhance science education in Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the Guwahati Science City at Tepesia, Kamrup (Metro) district, on Tuesday. Developed in collaboration with the National Council of Science Museums, Government of India, this facility underscores the state's commitment to advancing scientific learning.
Five District Science Centres were also inaugurated virtually in different locations including Amingaon, Majuli, Silchar, Kaliabor, and Bongaigaon, collectively incurring a cost of approximately Rs 178.13 crore. Each centre boasts a science gallery, a digital planetarium seating 64, and an auditorium, signaling Assam's significant progress in science and technology sectors.
Chief Minister Sarma emphasized the importance of local scientists in tackling regional challenges and urged students to pursue science vocations. He announced that school visits to the Science City would be organized to popularize scientific curiosity among youth, promoting it as a unique educational destination.
