Energy Crisis Impact: India’s Assurances vs. Ground Reality

Despite assurances from the Petroleum Minister, disruptions persist, leading to closures of crematoriums and businesses due to fuel scarcity.

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi, on Wednesday, questioned the Indian government's readiness for the West Asia energy crisis, pointing to gas-based crematorium shutdowns in Pune due to fuel shortages. In an interview with ANI, Chaturvedi criticized the government, citing that the public did not benefit from lower oil prices while companies profited and now face increased costs.

Adding to the criticism, MP Sanjay Raut attacked the Centre regarding LPG shortages across the nation amid the ongoing US-Israel-Iran conflict. He expressed concerns over businesses closing due to energy scarcities, indicating that government assurances have failed.

Contrasting these claims, Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri assured that domestic energy supplies remain stable. The ministry declared a 100% supply guarantee for domestic consumers, while industries receive a significant majority of their energy needs. Measures under the Essential Commodities Act prioritize natural gas distribution amidst logistical challenges imposed by the conflict.
