The Division Bench of the Madras High Court has issued an interim stay on contempt of court proceedings initiated against the Madurai District Collector and Thiruparankundram temple authorities. The action pertains to the contentious Karthigai Deepam case.

A panel of Justices N Sathish Kumar and M Jothiraman intervened while hearing appeals from the Madurai District Collector and the City Commissioner of Police. The parties challenged a single judge's orders that triggered the contempt proceedings.

During prior hearings, the suggestion to allow symbolic prayers at Thiruparankundram hill by a group of five was discussed. Further deliberations are set for April 8.
