State-owned Coal India Ltd is taking proactive steps to mitigate energy supply disruptions influenced by the ongoing West Asia crisis. The company plans to offer 25.62 million tonnes of coal for online auction this month, providing relief to industries facing shortages.
This new initiative follows the introduction of the Single Window Mode Agnostic (SWMA) auction, a streamlined system launched in 2022 to consolidate various auction formats into one, offering a more transparent and efficient procurement process. The company recorded higher coal offers in March and opened its auction platform to neighbors like Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Nepal for the first time.
As Coal India seeks to tap into international markets, it ensures domestic needs are met while fostering transparency and competition. Despite a recent production dip by 1.7% last fiscal year, Coal India aims to leverage its extensive coal resources more effectively and integrate into the global market landscape.
