The first phase of Census 2027 will begin in Jharkhand on May 1 with a self-enumeration exercise that will allow people to provide their household details digitally, officials said on Tuesday. Prabhat Kumar, the director of Jharkhand's Directorate of Census Operations, said the exercise will continue till May 15. ''Self-enumeration is a simple and convenient process that allows individuals and families to provide their information by visiting the official portal se.census.gov.in,'' he told reporters. He urged all to actively participate in this exercise and provide details about their household, housing conditions, and basic amenities. After the self-enumeration exercise, the housing listing and housing census field operations will begin on May 16 and continue till June 14. During this period, enumerators will visit households across the state to collect data directly, he said, adding that around 76,000 enumerators and supervisors will be deployed across Jharkhand for the purpose. Kumar cautioned residents against sharing any OTP with anyone during the census exercise and advised them to verify the enumerators on a house visit. The people engaged in enumeration will not ask for any OTP, he said. The first phase of the enumeration exercise will cover as many as 33 questions related to the condition of the house, family details, facilities available to the family, and assets owned by them. ''Basic information such as materials used in flooring, walls and roof of the house, ownership status, number of rooms, number of married couples, water and energy sources, toilet access, fuel used for cooking, and assets like a radio, television, internet facility, mobile phone, two-wheeler, car used by the family will be collected,'' said Satyendra Kumar Gupta, joint director of Jharkhand's Directorate of Census Operations. The second phase of the Census will be carried out from February 9 to February 28 next year, he said. The population enumeration will provide statistics on various demographic, socio-cultural, and economic parameters of each family member, along with their migration and reproductive characteristics, he said.
