Visionary Success: Indian Army's Advanced Surgical Eye Camp in Ladakh

The Indian Army orchestrated a transformative four-day Advanced Surgical Eye Camp at Leh, Ladakh, uniting military precision and government collaboration to deliver essential eye care. With innovative technology and skilled medical teams, the mission restored vision to many, showcasing a commitment to serving India's remote communities.

In a groundbreaking medical humanitarian effort, the Indian Army successfully wrapped up a four-day Advanced Surgical Eye Camp at the 153 General Hospital in Leh, Ladakh. This initiative exemplifies seamless civil-military cooperation, bringing together government and military leadership to deliver crucial healthcare to some of the nation's most remote and underserved areas.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh lauded the mission, which was adeptly orchestrated under the supervision of Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma. Spearheaded by DGAFMS Surgical Vice Adm Arti Sarin and led on the ground by Brigadier Sanjay Kumar Mishra, the mission represented a significant commitment by the Indian Army to provide vital medical care, following the success of Operation Drishti.

A major highlight of the mission dubbed OP NETRA 1.0 was the unveiling of the innovative Op Netra App. Developed in-house, this digital solution transformed the camp's workflow by digitizing patient records and optimizing surgical processes. The application is a testament to technological self-sufficiency, offering precise patient management in the challenging terrain of Leh.

This recent mission is a continuation of the Indian Army's humanitarian efforts across India, from Bhuj to Lakshadweep, performing over 2500 surgeries. During the April 27-30 camp in Leh, 950 patients from seven districts were screened, and the Army's elite surgical team performed 214 complex procedures with remarkable precision under daunting atmospheric conditions.

The operations included advanced cataract surgeries and vitreo-retinal procedures. Notably, 15 patients from high-altitude regions had their sight restored. The camp's success was supported by the Indian Air Force's logistical efforts, underscoring the importance of delivering top-tier healthcare to the nation's farthest corners, as stressed by attending dignitaries.

The camp concluded with a heartfelt ceremony attended by Union Territory of Ladakh's Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena and Northern Command Army Commander Lieutenant General Prateek Sharma. The event served as a powerful reminder of the army's dedication to ensuring that all citizens receive essential healthcare, regardless of their location.
