Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has ordered the eviction of street vendors from locations near hazardous compound walls across Bengaluru. The decision follows a recent incident where a wall collapsed, injuring several people. Shivakumar emphasized the need for rigorous safety measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
Addressing media at Vidhana Soudha, he stated that officials have identified zones prone to structural instability and are actively relocating vendors. He clarified that while the incident stemmed from accumulated pressure on the wall, attributing blame won't solve the issue. Steps are also being taken to trim weak trees to prevent rain-related mishaps.
Amid forecasts of inadequate rain by the Meteorological Department, Shivakumar addressed concerns about reservoirs and power generation. The government is also making arrangements for potential heavy rainfall impacts. On political fronts, the deputy CM deflected questions regarding internal party leadership changes, urging queries to be directed to Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge.
