The Rouse Avenue court has requested a response from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) regarding a bail application filed for Bharat Mathur, a senior Vice President at a private company. Mathur, along with DGCA Deputy Director General Mudavath Devula, was arrested for allegedly attempting a Rs. 2.5 lakh bribe. Both remain in judicial custody following a CBI investigation.
On April 24, Special Judge Chhavi Kapoor sought the CBI's reply while planning to address the bail application arguments next week. Mathur and Devula, detained on April 18, were remanded in judicial custody until May 6. Previously, the court extended their CBI custody by two days on April 22 at the agency's request.
Investigations revealed that the bribery case involved securing an illegal advantage for drone import approvals, with a deal set at Rs 5 lakh per application. The accused were apprehended at a Hauz Khas restaurant with Rs. 2.5 lakh in cash. Subsequent searches across four locations in Delhi led to the seizure of Rs. 37 lakh, gold and silver coins, and several digital devices.
