In an unsettling start to the week, two fires erupted in different sectors of Ghaziabad on Monday, but fortunately, no casualties were reported. The first fire blazed through several shack structures in the Vasundhara area of Sector 9. Chief Fire Officer (CFO) Rahul Kumar confirmed rapid response, stating, "As soon as we received the alert around 5:30 AM, three fire trucks were dispatched. Upon arrival, it was found that 4-5 shacks engaged in pressing work were alight. We promptly used hoses from both sides to control the blaze."
Elsewhere, a substantial fire broke out at Gaur Green Avenue in Indirapuram’s Abhay Khand, trapping residents, who were saved by the fire department's quick action. There, the CFO mentioned, "No casualties occurred. Firefighters successfully evacuated trapped individuals. Several flats from the ninth to eleventh floor suffered damage; the fire has now been effectively contained with over seventeen vehicles and hydraulics on-site."
In the wake of these incidents, Ghaziabad's district administration is rolling out a comprehensive week-long safety survey of high-rise buildings across the city. This initiative, spearheaded by District Magistrate Ravinder Kumar Mandar, aims to amplify disaster preparedness and enforce fire safety rules rigorously. A meeting convened by the District Disaster Management Committee, involving 17 different departments, pledged strict measures against code violations and focused on fortifying the urban region's disaster response frameworks. Mandar emphasized the goal is to augment response systems to meet the challenges posed by the city's rapid expansion.
