Tensions Rise: UAE Accuses Iran of Attacking ADNOC Oil Tanker
The UAE has accused Iran of attacking its empty ADNOC oil tanker, Barakah, with drones while it was traversing the Strait of Hormuz. The UAE demands Iran cease these actions and reopen the strait to international traffic. Iran has obstructed the Gulf for non-Iranian ships amid ongoing regional tensions.
On Monday, tensions in the Middle East escalated as the United Arab Emirates accused Iran of attacking an empty ADNOC oil tanker named Barakah with drones. The incident occurred as the vessel attempted to navigate through the crucial Strait of Hormuz.
According to ADNOC's maritime energy logistics unit, there were no injuries reported from the attack, since the tanker was not carrying any crude oil at the time. The UAE government called on Iran to cease such provocative actions and demanded the immediate reopening of the strait for international sea traffic.
The Strait of Hormuz, a vital channel through which about a fifth of the world's oil and gas shipments pass, has been a focal point of tension. Iran has reportedly restricted access to non-Iranian vessels, responding to prior assaults by the U.S. and Israel since February 18. The situation remains volatile, with a tanker reporting additional projectile strikes near UAE waters.
