Sunetra Pawar, the NCP president and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister, achieved a significant electoral win in the Baramati assembly by-election, bagging a victory margin of 2,18,034 votes. According to the Election Commission, her win set a new national precedent, surpassing Sunil Kumar Sharma's previous record from the 2022 elections.
The by-election, held on April 23, was necessitated by the tragic passing of her husband Ajit Pawar in a plane crash earlier this year. Riding on a wave of sympathy and support, Pawar managed to not only maintain but expand upon her late husband’s victory margin from prior elections.
