CIL Powers Forward: Unveiling a 100 MW Solar Project in Gujarat
Coal India Ltd (CIL) announces the operationalisation of a 100 MW solar power project in Gujarat, advancing its renewable energy goals. Despite challenges, CIL aims for enhanced solar capacity, urged by the Comptroller and Auditor General to expedite its Net Zero transition.
State-owned Coal India Ltd (CIL) has announced a significant advancement in its renewable energy efforts with the launch of a 100 MW solar project in Gujarat. This achievement marks a critical step in the company's pursuit of expanding its renewable energy portfolio.
In a recent filing to the BSE, CIL confirmed the commissioning certificate received from the Gujarat Energy Development Agency, solidifying the project's operational status effective March 31, 2026. The milestone emerges amid CIL's strategic ramp-up of its green energy initiatives, aligning with broader industry trends.
Despite CIL's dominance in coal production, responsible for over 80% of India’s output, the company faces pressure to expedite its solar power installations. Government auditor CAG had previously criticized CIL for delays in its 3,000 MW solar targets, urging accelerated action towards achieving a Net Zero energy footprint.
