Renowned social worker and Padma Shri awardee Phoolbasan Bai Yadav was recently rescued from an alleged abduction attempt in the Rajnandgaon district of Chhattisgarh. The incident involved three suspects, including two women, who were immediately detained by police authorities.
The abduction unfolded when Khushbu Sahu, a resident of Bemetara, visited Yadav's home, claiming that a differently-abled woman in a car wanted a selfie with her. Upon Yadav's approach to the vehicle, she was forcibly taken. Her rescue ensued when a police patrol stopped the car for a routine check, recognizing her and freeing her.
Preliminary investigations reveal that Sahu has connections with a self-help group and had been interacting with Yadav for several months. Authorities speculate potential illegal activities connected to SHG mobilization. Yadav, honored with Padma Shri in 2012, has significantly contributed to women's empowerment through self-help groups.
