Drone Strikes Halt Russian Oil Refinery Operations
The Kirishinefteorgsintez oil refinery in Russia has ceased operations following drone attacks allegedly from Ukraine, damaging multiple units and sparking a fire. The incident, which marks another attack this year, has crippled the plant's crude distillation units, complicating repair timelines.
A major Russian oil refinery, Kirishinefteorgsintez, has been forced to halt operations due to damage from Ukrainian drone attacks. The refinery, operating under Surgutneftegaz, suffered a fire and extensive damage to its crude distillation units, according to two reliable sources.
Although Surgutneftegaz has not commented, the sources revealed on condition of anonymity that three of the four crude units were targeted. Leningrad region's governor, Alexander Drozdenko, acknowledged the incident, confirming the fire within Kirishi's industrial zone.
The disruptions mark another hit on the plant, which has contributed to around 7% of Russia's oil refining volume annually. Repair timelines remain uncertain, and this attack adds to a spate of similar incidents earlier this year, including a major strike in May.
