The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has sanctioned three major projects totaling approximately Rs 23,437 crore for the Railway Ministry. The approved schemes involve constructing third and fourth lines between Nagda–Mathura, Guntakal–Wadi, and Burhwal–Sitapur, improving line capacity and mobility substantially.
According to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, the high-density network enhancement will boost operational efficiency in key regions. Aimed at realizing Modi's vision of a 'New India,' these projects promise to create a self-reliant populace by generating employment opportunities and fostering regional development.
The multi-tracking projects span 19 districts across six states, enhancing connectivity to 4,161 villages and several top tourist spots. Essential for freight transport, these expansions are expected to add 60 MTPA in freight traffic. Environmentally, this railway expansion will cut down logistics costs, oil imports, and CO2 emissions, aligning with climate objectives and sustainable growth.
