SEBI Steps Up AI Cybersecurity Measures with New Task Force
SEBI issues advisory on AI-driven cybersecurity risks with advanced tools like Mythos. A task force, cyber-suraksha.ai, is formed to examine vulnerabilities, share intelligence, and assess third-party cybersecurity postures. Immediate actions include regular system checks, risk assessments, and collaboration with third-party vendors to enhance cybersecurity frameworks.
The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has issued an advisory to warn against the evolving cybersecurity threats posed by advanced artificial intelligence (AI) tools such as Anthropic's Mythos. To address these risks, SEBI has established a special task force named cyber-suraksha.ai.
This task force, comprising representatives from various market infrastructure institutions, qualified registrars, transfer agents, and other stakeholders, aims to evaluate and mitigate cybersecurity vulnerabilities facilitated by AI-driven technologies. The regulator highlighted the potential risks associated with the rapid advancement of these AI tools.
SEBI's advisory includes recommendations for strengthening cybersecurity, like conducting regular vulnerability assessments, enhancing monitoring systems, and implementing zero-trust architectures. The advisory stresses the need for collaboration with third-party vendors and the use of the Market Security Operations Centre (M-SOC) for real-time threat detection.
