West Bengal has taken a significant step towards government formation as Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Kumar Agarwal submitted the Gazette Notification of the recently concluded Assembly election results to Governor RN Ravi on Wednesday. The submission sets the stage for the Governor to invite the majority party to form the new government.

Agarwal confirmed the delivery of the Election Commission's notification to the Governor, noting repolling for Falta and listing winners in 293 other seats. Addressing reporters, he refrained from commenting on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's reported unwillingness to resign, stating it involves the Chief Minister, Governor, and President of India.

This development follows Agarwal's detailed response to election-related allegations by Banerjee, dismissing concerns over Electronic Voting Machine manipulation due to a lack of specificity. He also refuted claims of Banerjee being manhandled at a counting center, citing surveillance footage and the absence of formal complaints or FIRs.

The electoral outcome, declared on Monday, saw the Bharatiya Janata Party clinching 207 seats, marking its first opportunity to govern West Bengal. Meanwhile, the Trinamool Congress, after a 15-year tenure, secured 80 seats, with the BJP preparing for its inaugural swearing-in ceremony in the state.
