Hope for Ceasefire to Repair Zaporizhzhia Power Line

Russia aims for a temporary ceasefire in May to repair a power line at the Russian-controlled Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant in Ukraine, as talks with the International Atomic Energy Agency proceed. The plant currently operates using a single power line, with the second disconnected since March.

Russia's top nuclear official expressed hope for a temporary ceasefire by the end of May to facilitate repair work on an external power line at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine. This move comes amidst ongoing discussions involving the International Atomic Energy Agency.

According to Alexei Likhachev, head of Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom, the Zaporizhzhia plant is currently relying on a single external power line after the second line has remained disconnected since the end of March. Efforts are underway to restore its functionality.

Temporary local truces between Russia and Ukraine have been arranged before for repair purposes, and similar negotiations are in active discussions now. The renewal of the power line could be crucial for maintaining the operational stability of the nuclear facility.
