Revolutionizing Jute Cultivation with JCIS: A High-Tech Leap

The National Jute Board has introduced the Jute Crop Information System (JCIS), a pioneering initiative aimed at revolutionizing the monitoring of jute cultivation across various states. This project, developed in partnership with ISRO and the Jute Corporation of India, harnesses advanced technology to integrate satellite intelligence, weather analytics, and field-level data.

JCIS is set to vastly improve the accuracy of jute crop area and production estimates, which are crucial for informed policy-making within the sector. Among the tools rolled out under the JCIS banner are BHUVAN JUMP, a mobile app facilitating on-ground jute monitoring, and PATSAN, an innovative web-based platform offering near real-time surveillance and analytics for stakeholders.

Historically, data collection for jute crop estimates relied heavily on fragmented and manual inputs, resulting in inconsistencies and delays. JCIS addresses these issues by enabling large-scale collection of geo-tagged field data and supporting crop-cutting experiments through a smart-sampling framework, thereby enhancing yield estimation accuracy.
