On Tuesday, the Swadeshi Jagran Manch, an RSS-affiliated body, endorsed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's austerity measures aimed at reducing India's dependence on foreign imports and conserving foreign exchange. This follows Modi's call to judiciously use fuel and defer gold purchases and foreign travels.
SJM national co-convenor Ashwani Mahajan highlighted these measures as a move toward 'Swadeshi', or the use of locally produced goods. By reducing petrol and diesel consumption, India could address supply disruptions caused by the West Asia conflict, Mahajan noted, while inspiring innovation in alternative energy sources.
The emphasis on self-reliance also extends to the energy sector, with a focus on renewable energy and clean technology production. Mahajan commended government efforts and urged all citizens, scientists, and entrepreneurs to contribute toward a self-reliant, robust India by reducing foreign dependence.
