The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), in collaboration with the Ministries of Housing and Urban Affairs and Petroleum and Natural Gas, has launched a groundbreaking hydrogen-powered shuttle bus service in the Central Vista area of Delhi. This service, introduced on Friday, marks a significant step towards eco-friendly public transport.
Under the initiative, two advanced hydrogen-fueled buses, provided by Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), will serve commuters. These buses, seating 35 passengers each, are equipped with GPS and CCTV systems to ensure safety and punctuality, while also facilitating real-time monitoring of routes and schedules.
Amit Kumar Jain, DMRC's Director (Operations & Services), stated that the shuttle will operate Monday through Friday, excluding gazetted holidays, during peak office hours from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm and 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm. This initiative, he noted, not only aims to strengthen last-mile connectivity but also highlights the government’s plan to connect government colonies with metro stations for enhanced commuter convenience.
