The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of a prolonged dry spell across Himachal Pradesh, with temperatures set to rise significantly after May 18. Light rainfall is predicted in isolated higher regions over the next two days, but overall dry weather is expected to prevail.
Head of IMD, Shobhit Katiyar, revealed that no significant weather activity is forecasted in most parts of the state over the coming three days. However, areas such as Chamba, Lahaul-Spiti, and Kullu might experience brief spells of light rain. Katiyar noted that the daytime temperature fluctuations are substantial, with lower areas experiencing 30-35°C, mid-hills at 24-30°C, and higher regions at 18-24°C.
AceRainfall is expected to resume after May 24 due to a new western disturbance. The state has received 37 mm of rainfall so far this month, surpassing the normal 33 mm. However, cumulative pre-monsoon rainfall remains below average. Katiyar cautioned of potential heatwave-like conditions by May 20-22, urging close monitoring for potential alerts.
