The Maharashtra government has extended the deadline for acquiring Unique Disability Identity (UDID) cards to September 30, allowing persons with disabilities (PwDs) uninterrupted access to welfare benefits. This initiative, led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, aims to circumvent financial disruptions faced by beneficiaries lacking UDID cards, ensuring continued support.
State Minister for Divyang Welfare, Atul Save, highlighted the efforts to coordinate with local authorities to aid eligible recipients. Beneficiaries without UDID cards, who were receiving assistance before April 1, will continue to do so if they hold valid medical certificates. This move primarily affects those enrolled in key welfare schemes, which face temporary aid cessation due to these new regulations.
The government directed tehsildars to oversee the UDID card acquisition process, with a special campaign targeting discrepancies between Aadhaar and UDID card information. Regular review by district collectors and monthly workshops aim to facilitate seamless implementation, ensuring all PwDs acquire the necessary identification by the new deadline.
