Maharashtra Charity Commissioner Halts Tata Trusts Meeting Amid Board Probe

The Maharashtra State Charity Commissioner has directed Tata Trusts to postpone its board meeting due to a pending investigation into the composition of Sir Ratan Tata Trust's board. The inquiry focuses on alleged violations of trustee composition regulations, which could impact decisions regarding Tata Sons.

The Maharashtra State Charity Commissioner has ordered Tata Trusts to delay a crucial board meeting initially planned for May 16. This decision comes amidst an ongoing investigation into potential violations concerning the board composition of the Sir Ratan Tata Trust.

Tata Trusts, a key shareholder of Tata Sons, had a board meeting to address issues such as the reappointment of Tata Sons' chairman and other significant group matters. The meeting was pivotal, particularly in light of the alleged statutory breaches.

The inquiry, initiated by a complaint from Advocate Katyayani Agrawal and Vice Chairman Venu Srinivasan, questions the trust’s current trustee composition. This includes three lifetime trustees, which reportedly contravenes new statutory limits. The Charity Commissioner insists meetings be deferred until the completion of the inquiry.
