In a significant step towards revolutionizing India's rail transport, the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (MAHSR) project is swiftly progressing. The Railway Ministry has prominently displayed a photograph of the bullet train by their Gate Number 4, signifying the project's importance.
The ambitious 508 km MAHSR project is being executed with the technical and financial support from Japan. It will traverse through Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Dadra & Nagar Haveli, featuring 12 stations including Mumbai, Ahmedabad, and Sabarmati. Out of these, eight stations like Vapi and Surat are in advanced stages of construction.
The ministry anticipates the inaugural run between Surat and Bilimora this year. Seventeen river bridges have been constructed, and work on major bridges is advancing. Additionally, depot construction is underway in Thane, Surat, and Sabarmati. BKC's civil works have marked 91% progress in excavation, alongside significant strides in under-sea tunneling.
As part of Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiatives, high-speed train manufacturing by ICF and BEML is underway to reduce imports. Land acquisition has adhered to legal frameworks, ensuring equitable compensation and resettlement, laying groundwork for future rail projects with enhanced Indian expertise.
